CREWE AND DISTRICT COIN AND MEDAL SOCIETY

The Crewe and District Coin and Medal Society is a friendly, active society for anyone interested in coins, medals, tokens or exonumia.
Visitors are always welcome and we are actively seeking new members.
The society’s object is To provide for its members a means of communication in order that through mutual helpfulness they will improve their overall knowledge of numismatics and with this in mind we meet ten times annually.
Every year we put on a varied programme, typically consisting of three talks, two coin fairs attended by national and local dealers, a numismatic quiz, an online auction, a short paper competition, a museum visit and a show-and-tell evening where members talk about items from their own collections. Further details of our 2024 programme are given below.
Meetings are held at 7.30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month except January and August at the Wistaston Memorial Hall, Church Lane, Wistaston, Crewe, CW2 8ER.
This has been the society’s venue ever since it was founded in 1968 by the late Brian Edge. Over the intervening 56 years we have met without interruption, even during Covid, when we continued to meet using Zoom.
In December this year the society will hold its 600th meeting, when we will be holding a ‘Good Old Days’- themed evening, looking back to the society’s beginnings.
The society has 37 members, drawn from a wide area around Crewe and attendance is typically 12-15. We have recently forged links with local metal-detectorist and archaeological groups who also attend, typically when the topic is hammered coinage or hoards, and numbers rise to around two dozen.
Annual subscriptions are: Adult – £8.00; Combined couple – £8.00; Junior – Free. Light Refreshment are provided free at meetings.
The Council of the Society currently consists of Steve Bentley (Chairman), Stuart Hallworth (Secretary), James Keegan (Treasurer), John Harrop, Jonathan Morris and Keith Robinson.
